It’s a love story…
It all started in 2008, after being hired at a local flower shop to clean and wrap roses by the dozen during Mother’s Day week! The job was far from glamorous, but it was the perfect place for my love of flowers and my already work-loving (read: workaholic) personality to bloom. It was also all my curious sixteen-year-old self needed to stay focused.
While I was originally hired as “extra” help during the busy weeks I eventually became a permanent part of the small team at the shop. After a couple of years, I would almost always work and run the store by myself on the weekends. Between helping clients, answering the phone, and cleaning I would find time to practice and learn new floral design techniques. On Sundays, I had to clean the coolers and the store and I would flip through wedding magazines like Elegant Weddings Magazine (not once did it ever cross my mind I would one day be featured in them!), I would pick a couple of different bouquets and with the old flowers I would try to replicate them as close as possible in shape and size. I genuinely just wanted to know HOW one could make such beautiful and intricate designs with flowers! I taught myself a few techniques before I even knew they were a thing.

Eventually, I started doing larger and more elaborate things like sympathy arrangements. As weird as this is going to sound, that is when I truly fell in love with the art of floral design. I loved the mechanics for complex designs, I loved the large scale, and the amount of flowers I could use, the thought process behind color, and texture. All of this filled me in a way that nothing else could, but I couldn’t deal with the process and feelings involved. I had recently lost my dad, so it hit too close too home and I decided it was time to focus on finishing my Political Science degree (because Ottawa…) and start a ‘real career’.
But life has a way to let you know you’re not living your life to its full potential, and somehow I always found myself helping out at different flower shops even when I had full-time jobs and a full university schedule. Ultimately decided that maybe flowers were the thing I was good at, and my destiny (?).
So, if flowers were what I was supposed to do, why not jump in head first, and make an offer to the owners of the first flower shop I worked at? That is exactly what I did, and life knocked on my door again; I got cold feet and pulled my offer, but this time it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
Long story short
Almost buying into someone else’s brand and name, helped me define what kind of business I really wanted: a floral studio exclusively catering to weddings. I realized that weddings, were exactly what I had been looking for, the large scale, the colors, the textures and most importantly… the feelings, and the process! It was perfect!
Today, we have evolved to Love in Bloom, because weddings are a process that should be enjoyed, just like the blooming of a flower. It unfolds in unprecedented ways that makes us feel things we didn’t know we could feel. I am a sucker for a good ‘ol love story and I want to ‘let love bloom’ through florals; and my number one goal is to ensure that love comes through in your floral vision in a romantic, effortless, and timeless way.
